Kingswood's Equestrian Program incorporates the use of Equine Behavior Therapy as a way for children to improve communication skills, gain self-esteem, and trust in their interactions. Kingswood has obtained two retired Appaloosa show horses for our children to learn grooming skills, groundwork knowledge and horsemanship training.
Our therapy utilizes the “Join-Up” technique in which communication and trust are made between the child and the animal through body language, movement, and various signals. Each child will be instructed in safety, awareness, and animal husbandry procedures. The goal is to help children learn how to communicate their intentions through touch and a soothing verbal manner while forming a bond and gaining control.
